Lara is an innovative thermal management retrofit solution for prismatic battery cells. Its integrated busbar cooling system targets the areas where heat can be dissipated most efficiently: directly at the cell terminals.
The result is a cost-effective approach to cooling and temperature control for battery modules that can be flexibly adapted to different cell variants and existing battery designs. Developed for manufacturers of industrial trucks, off-highway vehicles, and other industrial applications.
Your benefits at a glance:
Ultra-Fast Charging Capability
Minimal charging times, maximum operational readiness: The Lara module is designed for high charging power and enables ultra-fast charging—ideal for demanding applications with short downtime.
Cost-Effective Thermal Management
Instead of dissipating heat via a cooling plate at the cell base, Lara uses the cell terminals as a direct thermal pathway. Specially developed, double-walled busbar profiles integrate the cooling channel directly into the cells’ electrical connection. This results in a space-saving and cost-effective cooling solution.
Modular Design
The modular design can be adapted to various cell types and battery capacities. The busbar cooling system can also be integrated into existing battery designs—an approach that opens up new possibilities for the further development of existing battery systems.
Longer Battery Life
Efficient temperature management can reduce the thermal stress on the cells and thus help extend their service life. This supports cost-effective battery use and can reduce resource consumption and the carbon footprint over the battery’s life cycle.
Intelligent Cooling Directly at the Cell Terminals
Due to their design, prismatic battery cells offer ideal conditions for a compact module configuration. However, conventional cooling plates dissipate heat through the underside of the cells, thereby utilizing a thermally less efficient heat transfer path.
Lara takes a different approach: Cooling occurs directly via the cell terminals, which are connected to the cathode and anode. Double-walled aluminum profiles serve both as current busbars and as heat exchangers. A dielectric coolant circulates within the profiles, enabling targeted heat dissipation.
The combination of electrical connection and cooling function creates an integrated solution designed for efficiency, modularity, and cost-effective implementation.
